We often talk about how special the town of Danville is, and how its residents cherish the small town atmosphere of the community. In keeping with this tradition, the town of Danville is throwing a celebration for its latest hero, Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, the pilot of the US Airways plane that made a miraculous landing on the Hudson River in New York after losing power to both engines. Sully and his wife Lorraine are expected to speak briefly at the celebration, which will be held at the Danville Town Green in front of the Library.
Sully’s quick thinking and calmness under pressure likely saved the lives of most if not all of the 155 passengers aboard the plane. And as a true captain would, he made sure all of his passengers were off the plane before leaving himself.
We salute you Captain!
