A lot of cities talk about going green, often with minimal pay off. Dublin’s efforts to go green have paid off in a concrete way, and will lead to more “green” for the city’s coffers as it was announced that New Home, Inc, a green retail superstore, chose Dublin to locate its flagship store. It will occupy the former Good Guys site in Enea Plaza.
This is good news for Dublin, which has been hit hard in the current economic slump, especially in the retail sector with the closing of big box retailers such as Home Expo, Mervyn’s, and Circuit city. And this new addition to the Dublin business community is more than just the luck of the Irish. Dublin has been very aggressive in pursuing new businesses. In fact, the city has a business attraction program in place to help offset the cost to large businesses looking to move to the city. For a large retailer, their Sales Tax Reimbursement program refunds 50% of the sales tax revenue the city collects to the retailer for a period of 5 years. Dublin is serious about attracting business, and New Home, Inc shows it is starting to pay off. Courtesy of the Contra Costa Times.
