I’ve always known Dublin is a great place to live. But if you don’t believe me, just ask the folks who live there. 400 residents were recently surveyed about the quality of life in the city. 86% rated the quality of life as excellent or good. Public safety was high on the priority list of respondents.

Retaining public safety was a key priority, with 85 percent saying it was either extremely or very important to keep local fire stations open. Policing levels earned the next highest priority, followed by maintaining and improving 911 emergency and medial response times.
The state fiscal crisis also weighed heavily on the minds of respondents, with 89 percent saying the state budget deficit was either an extremely or very serious problem. Respondents also voiced concerns about the impact of state budget cuts on funding for local services.
A firm called Fairbank, Maslin, Maullin, Metz and Associates conducted the survey Nov. 30 to Dec. 6. It asked respondents about everything from public safety to city services to the ongoing state budget crisis. The results were released during Tuesday’s City Council meeting.
No real surprises here. Dublin is a progressive community that has embraced growth. It has worked hard to overcome its sleepy bedroom community roots to transform itself into a well planned modern suburban city, with new homes, new schools, lots of prime retail development, and an emphasis on transit-oriented housing that has attracted highly educated, upwardly mobile home buyers. The new West Dublin BART station will likely serve to jump start the long envisioned downtown redevelopment, which when (if?) it occurs will position Dublin as a prime destination in the Tri-Valley. Traffic is still problematic on Dublin City streets, but they are tackling that issue as well. Kudos to Dublin on a job well done!
