Nob Hill supermarket in is closing in March. The grocery store, located on Santa Rita Rd between Stoneridge Dr and W. Las Positas, is the latest in a string of retail businesses that have closed in the Tri-Valley.
Nob Hill’s sister brand is Raley’s, which has a huge grocery and drug store not far away on Sunol Blvd. Both stores are operated by the same company, so clearly it did not make sense to operate both stores in such a close proximity.
As is often the case, when one business closes, others sprout up to take their place. couple of new grocery stores will be opening in the city. Ranch 99, an Asian market that is part of a large chain, is opening in Rosewood Pavilion at the old Levitz Furniture site. Also scheduled to open is Fresh & Easy, a smaller boutique store from England, which will be taking the space previously occupied by Express Fitness in Rosewood Pavilion later this year. And Safeway is apparently in the planning process to open a large “lifestyle” store on Bernal Ave near Valley Ave.
So no worries here. We will have plenty of options to spend our grocery dollars well into the future. Now if we could just get a Gordon Biersch Brewery/Restaurant to open here. Hey, maybe we can get one put in the new Safeway Lifestyle store. Talk about serving the needs of your customer…

Ranch 99 should be an interesting addition to Pleasanton. In an already congested corridor I wonder if the parking nightmare it is in Dublin will be alleviated or aggrivated? Also interesting to note Fresh & Easy was going to open in Danville but met with some opposition due to it being a non union enterprise. Who knows what the future will bring?
