Are We Happy Yet?

Of course we are! We live in the Tri-Valley! And a new Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index survey confirms that we are perhaps the happiest place on earth – with apologies to Disneyland (cue up “Shiny Happy People” from REM).

Silicon Valley was rated as the happiest big metro region, with San Francisco-Oakland-Fremont coming in fifth. With Pleasanton, Dublin, San Ramon and the rest of the Tri-Valley located smack in the middle of those two regions we enjoy the best of both worlds, while having an identity that is still uniquely our own.

The Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index measures for each city an average of six sub-indexes, which individually examine life evaluation, emotional health, work environment, physical health, healthy behaviors, and access to basic necessities.

San Jose had the highest score in two of those areas, physical health and healthy behaviors. So who was the least happy? Las Vegas. No surprise there, as most everyone leaves with gambling losses, and sometimes with other baggage as well.

So take some time and reflect on how happy we are. Because it really could be worse… you could live in Barstow! To quote the famous American artist Bobbie McFarren “don’t worry, be happy”!
