Everybody in Dublin was Irish, at least for the weekend, as the city held its annual St. Patrick’s Day Festival. The festival was held this past Saturday and Sunday and was a celebration of all things green, and this popular event has become a tradition.

The weather was great for the festivities, which started with The Lion’s Club St. Patrick’s Day Parade Saturday morning. The parade started on Amador Plaza Road, near Safeway and went around Dublin Boulevard, Village Parkway and Amador Valley Boulevard. Four representatives of the city of Bray, Ireland, Dublin’s sister city, were on hand to act as the grand marshals of the parade.
There was much to do for everyone on both Saturday and Sunday, including live bands, dancing, great food, arts and crafts, sheep herding, carnival rides and much more. The Alameda County Firefighters held a pancake breakfast on Saturday morning at Station 16 and the Shamrock 5K Fun Run and Walk, which had over 1400 participants, was held on Sunday. All the sunshine, from above and from all the participants, helped ensure a great turn out to this year’s festival.
The St. Patrick’s Day Festival in Dublin is a great event and a rich part of the cultural heritage of the Tri-Valley, and an annual excuse to enjoy a couple of “Black ‘n Tans”!
