Summer has come, and what better way to celebrate it than with the annual return of the Alameda County Fair at the fairgrounds in Pleasanton. Featuring rides for toddlers to adults, including ferris wheels, roller coasters, and other motion-sickness-inducing thrill rides for the teenager in all of us. Of course, there is the lines of “carny” booths where you can try shooting a basketball into a hoop with about 1/100 of an inch clearance, along with many other ways to blow your money. There are landscape and gardening exhibits, livestock exhibits, product demonstrations and merchandise exhibits, and lots of local acts singing and dancing. This year, dog racing is being featured, as well as an exhibit of local wineries. And of course there is the diet busting foods, including such middle America treats as funnel cakes and corn dogs.

One of the highlights every year is the live entertainment in the amphitheater. This year’s line up has some great acts:

the fighter film

And if you are really feeling lucky, you can venture out to the horse racing at the oldest continuously operated horse race track in the lower 48. The fair runs through July 11th, so if you get a chance head on out for a taste of Americana right here in Pleasanton. More information can be found .
