You’ll want to make time this weekend to bring your family to the 6th Annual San Ramon Valley Emergency Preparedness Fair. The event, to be held Sept. 10, will feature emergency personnel from the Town of Danville and the City of San Ramon. Various county, state and federal agencies will also take part.

We all hope we never need to use this information, but it’s vitally important that we know what to do and how to protect our family if a disaster or emergency strikes. If you have little ones, you can get your child’s car seat checked between 10 a.m. and noon. You’ll also get tips on what you should have in your home earthquake kit and what you should teach your kids if a fire breaks out in your house. You can get your children fingerprinted (important to have in child abduction cases) and you and your children can take part in a Stranger Danger class.

And be sure to bring your pets. You can get shots and microchip implanting for them at a reduced cost by the Bishop Ranch Veterinary Center and Urgent Care.

While you’re there, you’ll get a free barbecue lunch, tour a fire truck and police car, and learn how to use a fire extinguisher. And you’re sure to be impressed by a Jaws of Life demonstration from the the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District , the Second Military Medical Brigade from Camp Parks, a presentation by the San Ramon Police canine team and a display from the United States Army’s critical response unit.

In addition, you’ll receive a free emergency supply gift if you’re one of the first 500 families.

The event will take place Saturday, Sept. 10 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the LDS Church located at 655 Old Orchard Road in Danville.

The Fair is sponsored by the City of San Ramon, the Town of Danville, AT&T San Ramon Regional Medical Center, Joyce Feldman - Farmers Insurance, San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District, the San Ramon Valley Unified School District and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
