The event, put on by the Caledonian Club of San Francisco, is always a good time and was held at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton.

Music, sports, dancing, spirits, food, history, animals … this event had something for everyone. More than 30 pipe bands competed, Scottish dancers and traditional and Celtic rock bands performed, and living history was reenacted.

If you’re a bird and animal lover, there was an opportunity to view exotic birds of prey or watch the sheepdog trials. There was also soccer, rugby, and shinty. And you didn’t want to miss the heavy athletic events, including throwing the caber and putting of the stone.

You could even research your Scottish heritage among the 100 clan tents and then sample some whisky to celebrate your lineage.

As usual, it was a fun filled weekend and a great time was had by all!
