To be, or not to be? If you’re a Shakespeare, theater, or wine fan, then you’ll definitely want TO BE at this summer’s Livermore

William Shakespeare

Shakespeare Festival, with showings of Hamlet and The Merry Wives of Windsor through Aug. 12.

The festival takes place at the stunning Concannon Vineyard. The renowned tragedy Hamlet will be performed July 13, 14, 22, 27, 28, 29 and Aug. 10 and 11.

The whimsical comedy The Merry Wives of Windsor will hit the stage July 19, 20, 21 and Aug. 3, 4, 5, and 12.

Plan to come early and picnic on the grounds. Then enjoy the plays in front of the magnificent Queen-Anne style Victorian home that became the center of the winery in 2008. The home offers a likeness to an Elizabethean stage with two grand porches on different levels. And the Victorian house is the equivalent of Shakespeare’s tiring house. Just as in Shakespeare’s day, the actors ‘attire’ themselves (dress and change costume) in the house.

Food and Concannon wine are welcome (due to state law, no outside alcohol is allowed). You can also eat at the Underdog Wine Bar or purchase snacks in the tasting room.

Concannon Vineyards is located at 4590 Tesla Road.

Shows are adult-oriented and not recommended for children under the age of 10. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.livermoreshakes.org/.
