Livermore School Information

The Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District currently serves over 13,000 students in Livermore. Livermore schools were established in the late 1800's, including Livermore High School, founded in 1891. Because of growth, Livermore has opened several new schools, mainly in North Livermore where new housing developments have been completed.

Livermore, like many school districts in the state, has endured a severe budget crisis, and has struggled to maintain funding. In 1991, the Livermore Valley Education Foundation, a private non-profit group of community leaders and citizens, was founded to help fund school programs. To date it has provided over $1.6 million to the district to fund sports programs, music programs, class size reduction, drama and media programs, and counseling programs. Thanks to the influx of high-end homes and aggressive development of the downtown area and business sector, the future for Livermore schools is bright.

In 2005 Livermore the Valley Charter School was founded. As a public charter school, the LVCS provides education for grades K - 8. It has proved to be a viable choice for parents seeking alternatives to the Livermore public school system.
